Description

The frequent rains and floods from December to February and the long periods of drought from May to June, together with the lack of access to safe drinking water and sanitation, in addition to the lack of hygiene habits of the population, cause a high prevalence of infectious diseases transmitted by water, in addition to reported cases of malaria, tuberculosis, pneumonia and diarrhea.

For this reason, CODESPA is committed to investing in the infrastructure for the construction of a water system for the rural community of Agusan del Sur (Philippines), and to provide technical assistance for the implementation, management, monitoring and maintenance of the infrastructure.

CODESPA, in collaboration with the municipality, plans, coordinates and builds water collection points from a source of drinking water in height, which allows safe access to drinking water, also during natural disasters such as flooding. It also strengthens the capacities and accountability of the Local Government through the improvement of the quality and sustainability of the provision of services and the correct application of the existing sanitation ordinances. It also promotes and sensitizes health and hygiene to improve primary health practices.

Activities
  • Construction of a new water infrastructure system: construction of water collection point from a source of drinking water in height and construction of piping that allows safe access to drinking water, also during natural disasters such as flooding.
  • Strengthening of the capacity and accountability of the Local Government: improving the quality and sustainability of the provision of services and the correct application of the existing sanitation ordinances - the improvement of the systems of incentives, contributions and sanctions and the process for ensure the maintenance of the systems
  • Promotion and awareness in health and hygiene for the improvement of primary health practices.
Who will benefit?

470 people will have access to water and sanitation and will be trained in health and hygiene practices related to water.
