Campaign objectives

To contribute in the reduction of the hunger for the families in a vulnerable situation in Angola, improving the food security and the nutrition of 3250 people of Humbo and Bie.

To increase the productivity of the land, at least, a 70% yearly and increase in a 30% the protein content of the diet of the inhabitants of these areas.

Description

In the towns of Huambo and Bie (Angola) the population is dedicated to the subsistence agriculture and the 47.5% of the population suffers from food insecurity due to the low productivity of agricultural crops and the bad implementation of inadequate farming techniques and limited access to quality seeds. In addition, as they only grow potatoes and corn, the diet becomes poor in proteins and nutrients, which affects the health of  families.

The project "Seeds of Future" of CODESPA Fundation will allow farmers to receive practical training and technical assistance through Farmer Field Schools, in order to learn how to become multipliers and managers of the quality seed banks, promoting their use among the most vulnerable farmers. At the same time, they will receive support to improve their agricultural techniques. The consumption of soybean is promoted as long as it is a crop that contributes in a special way to the improvement of nutrition as it contains a large amount of minerals such as phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, copper and lecithin. Huambo and Bie are the provinces with the highest production of soybean in the country.

Activities
  • Informative workshops in the Farmer Field Schools about the seed multiplication and the use of new inputs.
  • Support and follow-up of the management of Seed Banks.
  • Transversal support in the field to improve their agricultural techniques.
  • 10 training sessions about soybean and its benefits.
Who will benefit?

With your help, 650 families (3250 people) that inhabit in rural areas located far away from basic services, hospitals and food markets will have access to a better nutrition.
